Dog Training 101

Dog training is both art and science. There are many ways to teach obedience skills and manners to dogs. How one teaches becomes their 'art.' Achieving reliability in a dog's response to, for example, a request to come when called at the park or sit and stay instead of chasing a squirrel across a busy street is 'science.' Utilizing the science of learning as a guide in training dogs takes into account the individual dog, and provides a course outline for the owner. In one session, we'll discuss the current trends in dog training, learning tools and techniques for training, and review the four d's of education - duration, distance, difficulty, and distraction. Sorry, no pets allowed.

Pet First Aid and Safety

Do you have a first aid kit for your dog or cat? Are you ready in the event of an emergency? Knowing your pet's heart rate, respiration, body temperature, and the basic principles of CPR, is essential in stabilizing your pet before getting him or her to a veterinarian. In one session, you will learn pet CPR, and how to bandage minor wounds, stop the flow of blood, use safe carrying and handling techniques, and improvise during pet emergencies. Consideration will be given to the special needs of young and elderly pets, in addition to setting up a first aid kit and disaster preparedness plan. Sorry, no pets allowed.
